Verbatim claims its new DVD+R and DVD+RW discs with VideoGard Protection are 40 times more scratch-resistant than normal DVDs or CDs, and users so far are reporting that the discs can indeed take a licking. One reviewer for Digital Media Net dropped a disc on his brick patio, scratched it with steel wool, drowned it in Diet Coke, and gouged it with a paper clip — but the disc continued to play flawlessly. The only test VideoGard couldn't protect against? Being run over with an SUV on a gravel driveway.
