Results-Based Learning Experiences with Accelerated Learning

3 principles that drive learner success and produce mind-blowing results.

Twenty-seven years ago, I founded Cheetah Learning with a simple premise: The only thing that matters is achieving results, FAST. Not whether people enjoyed the experience. Not whether they rated the instructor highly. Did they achieve the result, and QUICKLY?

Since then, more than 80,000 people have come through Cheetah’s programs. They keep coming, and they keep sending others, for one reason. They quickly achieved a significant accomplishment that mattered to them personally, and in the process, they became someone they like better. And it stuck.

That’s what a results-based experience is. An experience designed so that the person in the seat achieves something so meaningful to them that they are permanently changed by it.

3 Core Principles

These three principles are at the core of Cheetah’s DNA:

1. Teach to the most capable person in the room.

Designing for lowest common denominator? That pace is set so nobody gets left behind, which means nobody gets pushed forward either. The lowest common denominator guarantees mediocrity.

We do the opposite. We teach to the most capable person in the room. We set the bar at the top and allow people to rise to meet it. When you treat people like they’re capable of more, they prove to themselves they are.

You might think that pitching the content high would leave people behind. In practice, it creates a pull. People catch up quickly because they’re engaged at a level that challenges them. In our Accelerated Project Management Professional (PMP) prep program, people walk in on a Monday and pass one of the most challenging professional exams in project management by Friday. Four days. That doesn’t happen by going slow and easy. It happens because we set the pace for the person who’s ready to fly, and everyone else discovers they can fly, too.

2. Guarantee a mind-blowing result for participation.

Here’s a question worth sitting with: What results are your people experiencing after

training?

Not during. After. Look at post-course evaluations. Did they like the instructor? Would they recommend it?

These are fine questions, but they measure satisfaction, not transformation. A person

can rate a course five stars and go back to their desk completely unchanged.

A results-based experience starts with a different question: What is the significant accomplishment this person will walk away with? Not the organization. Not the department. The person. What matters to them?

When someone passes the PMP exam after four days, that’s not just a certification. It’s proof to themselves of what they’re capable of. The promotions, the raises, the increased confidence— those flow naturally from that moment of realization.

The exam is the validation, but the transformation is what happened inside them to get there. And it sticks for a lifetime, because you can’t unlearn the discovery that you’re more capable than you thought.

In the Cheetah Leadership OS program, participants spend 20 hours (10 in structured learning and simulation, 10 working through real challenges) and come out able to respond to difficult situations with confidence, knowing their approach will change the trajectory of where things were headed. They resolve issues without creating new ones at least 90 percent of the time. This is what matters to the person living it every day, not just to the person reviewing quarterly metrics.

In leadership, this kind of confidence unlocks people to start taking smarter risks. When you know you can walk into any situation and use it for growth and learning—for yourself and everyone involved—challenges stop being threats and start being opportunities. These results are so meaningful the participants naturally tell everyone they know about it. That unsolicited, enthusiastic referral from someone whose life changed is our primary metric.

3. Build the road so anyone who walks it gets there.

A mind-blowing result means nothing if only a few people can achieve it. The magic is in the curriculum development: building a process so robust that everyone who follows it arrives at the result.

This is the part that takes skill to get right. It’s about engineering a path that works for every person who shows up, regardless of background or starting point. The process itself delivers the result.

A robust process easily flexes across different audiences, from individual professionals preparing for certification to leadership teams in government agencies, transportation departments, and the C-suite. The audiences change, the contexts change, but the principle holds: Build the road so anyone who walks it gets there. Every step is intentional. Nothing is filler. The sequence matters, the pacing matters, and the challenges are designed so that working through them produces the transformation.

The Real Measure

The only question worth asking about any training program is this: What significant, mind-blowing results are your people experiencing after training? Are they achieving things that matter to them? Are they becoming someone they like better?

Or are they filling out an evaluation form with little long-term gravity? When you teach to the most capable person in the room, guarantee a mind-blowing result for participation, and build the road so anyone who walks it gets there, something extraordinary happens. People carry the experience with them. It changes how they learn, how they lead, and how they see themselves.

That’s a results-based experience—it creates enduring impact.
