Just how many times have employees returned from a training only to forget what they learned a week later? According to www.willatworklearning.com, people forget 50 to 80% of what they learned after one day, and 97 to 98% after one month. But I’ve learned throughout the years that a few reminders disguised as visual tips can keep the momentum going months after a training event. These include:
- Posters placed in the breakroom or hallway. High-traffic areas are built-in marketing channels when it comes to grabbing someone’s attention.
- Pocket guides or job aids to keep at their desk. Most of us don’t want a stack of papers or a workbook to refer back to all the time. A smaller version or a one-page tip sheet works best as a quick reference.
- Daily (or regular) trivia. There’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition around the office, especially when it keeps your team on their toes and at the forefront of new trends and information. Plus, it helps keep employees engaged. Win-win!
