CHG Healthcare Services LEAPs Ahead

The Leadership Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP) was developed to gather information on potential leaders and pinpoint areas for growth that are essential for all CHG leaders.

At the end of 2009, CHG Healthcare Services launched a new two-part Leadership Development Program. Employees interested in a leadership opportunity within the company now can speak to their managers about the Leadership Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP), which is designed for those ready to move into leadership in the next six to 12 months. The program was developed to gather information on potential leaders and pinpoint areas for growth that are essential for all CHG leaders. Here is how it works:

  • The LEAP program begins with an assessment that resembles a 360-degree feedback report. Employees, along with their leader and peers, evaluate their skills in various areas of importance: results focus, relationship focus, and growth potential.
  • Along with this assessment, participants in LEAP also take a TalentSim assessment, an online simulation that accurately measures leadership capability using a “real-life” job simulation format. Each situation is realistically presented through a combination of narration, video, photos, and animation.
  • Taking both of these assessments gives employees and their leader a good starting point to build action plans. The purpose of these action plans is to focus on areas where employees will need to be further developed before they can be promoted into a leadership position. It also serves as a measure of what employees currently are doing well.
  • Action plans can include taking other courses already given by CHG University, doing research, or reading books targeted to areas that need to be developed. The program also includes several modules on the skills and abilities necessary to be a leader at CHG.
  • Upon completing the LEAP program, and once promoted, employees move forward into the Leadership Essentials and Development (LEAD) program.
