How Is Artificial Intelligence Improving Corporate Training?

Artificial intelligence can use real-time, automated individualization to customize learning content in accordance with the unique learning style of each user, thereby maximizing productivity.

Artificial intelligence (AI) may still be in its early stages of development, but it is already forcing HR and business teams around the globe to reconsider few of their core structures. Innovative approaches in AI are causing organizations to develop new training models, modify their HR departments, reevaluate their hiring practices, and restructure their organizational makeup, according to Deloitte’s 2017 Human Capital Trends Report.  This report draws on surveys from more than 10,000 business and HR leaders in 140 nations. Many of these transformations result from AI software’s early penetration and the preparation for business needs that will surface as they mature.

Today, corporate Training departments also should look at how much training employees require and how to address their individual styles of learning. The lack of development opportunities is the major reason most employees are not achieving their full potential. From the management perspective, most corporate departments are failing to meet their employees’ learning needs. So the immediate question is: How can corporate Training departments address the issues related to employee training and provide more opportunities for effective training and development in the workplace?

The answer: This can be achieved by incorporating new technologies into their corporate training programs.

Organizations can access intelligence and insights about a learner by incorporating AI technology into their corporate training programs and steering corporate learning initiatives. Artificial intelligence can use real-time, automated individualization to customize learning content in accordance with the unique learning style of each user, thereby maximizing productivity. With artificial intelligence, the training content is tailored to the employee’s needs. There are many areas of training in which AI can have an impact, including:

Personalized Learning: Personalized learning refers to a diverse variety of instructional approaches, learning experiences, strategies, and programs that address the distinct cultural backgrounds, weaknesses, aspirations, interests, and learning preferences of the individuals. Personalized learning is the most common application of artificial intelligence in corporate training. AI can be used to determine the learning areas the learner is having difficulty understanding, so before moving to the next module, the learner can be retrained in a different way and then retested.

Adaptability: The learning systems used in corporate training can adapt to a topic’s specific knowledge of each user and test him or her through frequent, short multiple-choice games and quizzes that are developed with AI. These quizzes and games are automated and are part of modern training programs to help employees to recollect what they have learned and to measure the effectiveness of the training they received. These quizzes and games are not just basic Q&A sessions but can adapt themselves based on an individual employee’s needs and progressions.

Training Program Updates: In many of the training programs that are delivered to employees, frequent changes are needed as most of them aren’t perfect in the first go-round. When the programs contain digital elements, it is time-consuming and expensive to make frequent changes to them. Depending on the nature of the industry and size of the organization, training programs typically must be updated at least once in a month. AI comes to the rescue here as an AI program can handle this for the corporate training department. It can also test the new changes to try and resolve any problems.

Employee Experience Improvement and Cost Reduction: AI-enabled corporate training models, refines, and enhances the overall learning experience and enhances employee domain expertise, thereby increasing the overall productivity of the organization. Also, employees can obtain relevant and valuable information at the time they need it. AI can reduce the number of training sessions led by instructors by half. This decreases the overall cost of a corporate training program.

While we cannot say AI can replace human mentors, it can automate certain major tasks in corporate training so employees can gain greater benefits from it. Employees learn throughout their careers. So to prepare them for a prosperous career and optimize corporate training programs, you need to employ the right AI tactics in your organization.
