Orlando Magic

There truly was magic in the air—and learning opportunities everywhere—at the Training 2016 Conference & Expo held February 15-17 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

First, a cockroach’s leg danced to the beat even though it was no longer attached to its body (the leg regenerates, and the roach is fine, we promise). Then a woman moved a man’s arm using her brain’s electrical activity. Later, a gentleman thief stole attendees’ hearts—along with a few cellphones, a tie, and a watch—as he demonstrated the art of misdirection. And that was just at the keynotes…

There truly was magic in the air—and learning opportunities everywhere—at the Training 2016 Conference & Expo held February 15-17 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. More than 2,100 attendees found themselves exploring innovative training possibilities and engaging in productive dialogues during new formats at the conference, including:

  • Training Technology Test Kitchen
  • Future Forum
  • Training Top 10 Hall of Fame Town Halls
  • Second City Works improv demonstrations

The learning continued with 11 certificate programs, 22 hands-on clinics, 115 breakout sessions, and 23 sponsored sessions. And the Expo Hall was bustling with 83 exhibitors showcasing new products and services. Plus, two back-stage Disney tours, a tour of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Simulation and Training, a dine around event, and an evening at the Magic Kingdom offered even more opportunities to soak up new technologies and best practices while networking.

Leading up to the Training 2016 Conference & Expo, we curated four weeks of peerlearning experiences to get participants exploring relevant content, and learning and networking with each other virtually before the conference. As keynoter Welby Altidor, executive creative director of Cirque du Soleil, noted, “We have to let go of the notion that things have to be perfect. Instead, focus on iterating and improving.”

Now that’s a trick worth mastering!

A MAGICAL TIME FOR THE TOP 125

Following a cocktail hour filled with card tricks and other illusions, followed by a special watch stunt by gentleman thief Apollo Robbins, the 2016 Training Top 125 winners received their crystal awards and learned their rankings during the This Magic Moment Gala held during the Training 2016 Conference & Expo at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, FL.

Seiko served as the official timekeeper of the event and also to the countdowns leading to the application deadline and Gala. Pelucida provided the crystal awards.

Jiffy Lube International accelerated into No. 1 (up from No. 2 last year) on the 2016 Training Top 125, while Keller Williams Realty, Inc., moved into the No. 2 spot. Health-care companies rounded out the rest of the Top 5, with CHG Healthcare Services, Capital BlueCross, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan earning Nos. 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Some 28 new companies broke into the Top 125 this year.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., was inducted into the Training Top 10 Hall of Fame after earning Top 10 rankings in four consecutive years. Jiffy Lube International, CHG Healthcare Services, and Capital BlueCross achieved that feat as of 2016 and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at next year’s Gala.

Earlier in the day, Training Top 125 Best Practices and outstanding Training Initiative award winners received crystal trophies during a ceremony on the Expo Stage.
