Productivity Coach’s Corner: Own Your #KnownFor

Make this the year you work for your purpose and on your priorities.

It’s a new year, and you have as many (or more) projects to manage and meetings to attend. Are you feeling the engagement a new year brings? Or perhaps you feel overwhelmed by too many priorities.

Make this the month you focus on the power of purpose and set the stage for a more productive—and meaningful—year.

Guide your prioritization by asking yourself, “What do I want to be #KnownFor?” When you know your purpose, everything becomes clearer.

If you ask people you work with what you are known for, would their answers match your own? I devised a process to review and recommit to what’s important to you. Start by making a list in your journal of four to seven roles you have at work. For each, decide on a time period (three months minimum) and answer this question: “What do I want to be known for?”

Write your statements on notecards where you can see them throughout the day. When you—and those you work with—know what you want to be #KnownFor in each professional role, it is easier to say, “Yes” (and “No!”) to the things that matter the most.

Make this the year you work for your purpose and on your priorities.
