MVPawards

Developing pathways for talented team members to grow and develop at Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is a critical component of the organization’s success. HMH’s Pathways to RISE Leadership Development Program is geared toward diverse and underrepresented team members who have been hand-selected as potential leaders of tomorrow. The program was created in partnership with HMH’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Talent Development teams.

Program Details

This year-long program includes coaching and mentoring, as well as a robust learning curriculum with content that covers:

  • Creative Problem Solving—The HMH Maze
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Appreciative Inquiry
  • Career Development: Interview and Resume Skills and Building a LinkedIn Profile
  • Project Management Foundations
  • One of Four HMH Economic Engine Sessions: Finance; Innovation; Health Equity; or Strategy, Communications, and Marketing

Designed to engage high-potential team members of all levels, the hybrid in-person and virtual instructor-led experience includes leadership development workshops, roundtable discussions with executives, and leadership assessment. RISE participants are assigned a mentor to practice their new skills and receive advice from their mentors post-workshops.

A unique feature of this program is that participants select one of four economic engine sessions that is part of a larger program with participants from other HMH nomination-based leadership development programs. This affords the participants an opportunity to learn from and interact with others at different levels in the organization—managers, directors, physicians, and executives—while gaining different perspectives on the topic of their choosing.

Team members who successfully complete RISE are invited to RISE 2.0 to continue their learning journey.

Results

From September 2023 to August 2024, the turnover rate for RISE participants was 3.30 percent and the promotion rate was 16.51 percent, both meeting the company’s goals for the program.
