Training APEX Awards Best Practice: Sunstates Security’s Power User

By becoming LMS Power Users, managers gain more authority and influence over the performance of their employees rather than relying on the corporate staff to manage the training.

APEX Awards

In an effort to boost client satisfaction with management performance, Sunstates Security created Power User for individuals within its learning management system (LMS) who can be assigned distinct permissions and resources, enabling them to access concealed information and sections of the platform.

Utilizing Power Users allows the company to provide administrative privileges to collaborators while retaining control over the entirety of the platform. Instead of individually assigning permissions, Sunstates Security created multiple profiles tailored to particular roles and subsequently assigned these profiles to numerous Power Users. This streamlined approach reduces the time required for assigning Power User privileges.

Program Details

Attaining a Power User profile requires holding a supervisor or manager title and fulfilling the prerequisite of the Manager’s Learning Plan. This comprehensive plan encompasses 20 meticulously selected courses for Sunstates Security’s managerial staff. Once the manager successfully finishes the final course in the plan, the dashboard is triggered to seamlessly transition from the Learner Dashboard to the Power User Dashboard. The Power User Dashboard incorporates an administration tools segment that equips managers with capabilities such as overseeing their team, accessing their team’s specific training initiatives and certifications, facilitating enrollment into additional courses, and running and viewing reports on enrollment status.

As such, rather than exerting control over the field, Sunstates Security empowers managers to become more actively engaged. While many companies have established dedicated regional training divisions, Suntates Security aims to equip all of its managers and supervisors with the necessary tools to effectively oversee their teams, ensuring a high standard of performance. Consequently, the company believes, managers gain more authority and influence over the performance of their employees rather than relying on the corporate staff to manage the training.

Each week, comprehensive reports are distributed to all managers and those in higher positions, encompassing essential core courses, as well as compliance-related courses. These reports furnish managers with the capacity to assess their performance standings, allowing for comparisons with the specific requirements of their respective teams. During the Executive Steering Committee meeting, metrics for the corresponding timeframe are assessed and analyzed, with a focus on identifying and addressing any observed discrepancies.

Results

From July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, the client satisfaction survey rating related to performance was at 92 percent, surpassing the company’s goal. Sunstates Security also has consistently achieved a retention rate of 95 percent.
